A shower door that does not close properly can be a nuisance. Water can spray out during showers causing a mess. If your shower door needs adjusting, do it as soon as possible. If the door is allowed to continue dragging it could permanently damage the door and the track. Fortunately, adjusting the door of your shower is relatively simple and can be accomplished in a short period of time.
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
Things You’ll Need
Screwdriver
Silicone lubricant
Replacement rollers
Two-by-four block
Shims
Wood block
Hammer
Assistant (optional)
Sliding Shower Doors
1 Remove the sliding shower doors. To do so, remove the plastic guide. Depending on the type of shower door you have, the guide will either be located in the middle of the lower rail, or the guide rail will be on the door. The guide is secured with a screw. Remove the screw and the guide.
2 Lift the shower doors from the tracks.
3 Check that the rollers turn easily. If the rollers do not roll easily, spray silicone lubricant on them. Use lubricant that is specifically designed for plastic.
4 Replace the rollers. If spraying the rollers does not solve the problem, install replacement rollers. Bring the old rollers with you to the home improvement store. Be sure that the edges on the replacement rollers match with the old rollers.
5 Reposition the shower doors back onto the track.
6 Reinstall the guide rail.
Hinged Shower Doors
1 Loosen each screw located in the corners of the door frame.
2 Loosen the handle screws.
3 Open the door.
4 Place a two-by-four block under the outer bottom corner of the shower door.
5 Slide shims between the two-by-four block and the door.
6 Place a block of wood against the bottom corner of the door.
7 Tap the underside of the block of wood lightly with a hammer. If possible, have an assistant hold the door steady.
8 Drive the shims in tight now that the door is a little higher up. This will prevent the shower door from sagging down.
9 Continue in this manner until you reach the desired height.
10 Tighten all the screws and close the door.
